Born and raised in the Bay Area, Sophie is a graduate of CSU Maritime Academy (Cal Maritime). She has a B.S. in Marine Transportation and a Minor in Oceanography. She had a varied high school educational journey to college involving starting a film and photography business in 2013, North Ridge Films, multiple other jobs and internships on and off the water, backpacking, wilderness medicine, and more, before attending Cal Maritime.
On campus she was involved in diverse works spanning the Corps of Cadets, photography and videography, union activism as an intern, organizing multiple clubs, and facilitating volunteer efforts for a local non-profit, among other student jobs.
She has programmed, worked with sensors and hardware, and designed or otherwise assisted in designing multiple projects related to oceanographic research at CSU Maritime Academy. Beginning with a CTD in 2019, she moved to working on the Oceanography Department’s Research Buoy near the start of 2021, then concurrently working on vessel emission sensors at the beginning of 2022. Both are still ongoing projects.
Sophie loves working on and being near the ocean, and always keeps busy. In her sparse spare time she enjoys programming and 3D modeling, working with paint and pyrography, and writing projects spanning recipe and fictions books, poems, scripts, and other writings.
